Scrapcode countdown
As I spent the weekend moving something like ninety post pages from the lostexodite domain to here, I didn't get an awful lot of hobby done, to be fair. That being said, I DID finally settle (I think) on a loyalist Solar Auxilia palette. One that I'm embarrassed to say is kind of inspired by the 'Lord Marshall's Own' grey and green after all.
I have tweaked it a little to suit my own tastes. I've also come up with a tank and unit marking scheme I like, having tested it out on a Leman Russ squadron and Baneblade.
The general gist is the full coloured turret and numeral identifies the squadron and command tank. The half turret marking and turret numerals indicate 2IC and the other two tanks in the squadron (troop).
I've also used the hull marking position to signify command, tank-hunter and infantry support roles. This scheme works especially well with the Leman Russ squadrons. I'm excited to see how I can evolve it for the Malcadors and 'specialist' armour detachments.
Having so much fun doing this lot. New bases arrived this week from Sarissa Precision, so I now have enough for a number of detachments I think, including some Valdor and Infernus.
They are only just at the decal application stage, so all the weathering and detailing lies ahead. If you are curious though, the primary hull palette is Tamiya Sea Grey and JN Grey with the markings Contrast Warp Lightning. It had just the right amount of saturation I was looking for, really helping to make the tanks pop.

My goal is to get the Russ and Baneblade detachment(s) completely done, along with a rifle tertio before the release of the Mechanicum in three weeks time. This caught me completely by surprise as I really never expected the next book and the recently previewed Mechanicum Battle Group to go up for pre-order so quickly! Hey, I'm not complaining, looking forward to the Mechanicum and Dark Mechanicum joining epic scale heresy.
Great to have you here on humble blogger! I love your work with the small scale miniatures by GW and am very happy that you decided to migrate your archive here! Love to look at your Legio Solaria to inspire mine!
ReplyDeleteThank you! If anything, moving back onto Blogger has been a positive move I think. Stuff just works. Solaria wasn't the easiest legio I have painted to date, but it's probably one of my favourite. Especially The Reaver 'Manibus Ignum' with the original epic scale Rough Riders on the base. I wanted to capture the style of pose from some of the old monochrome art from the 90's and I think it came out ok.
