Praise the Omnissiah!
A new home? Yes. End of the old blog? Unfortunately.
Why?
The honest and simple answer is the slow and steady decline of readership, engagement and the cost for me to keep it going. For the past several years I have personally been funding the hosting, domain registration, software and other costs for 'lost exodite' out of my own pocket to provide a blog that was ad free for readers and responsibly hosted. Those costs have sadly increased to a point where, I'm sorry to say, I cannot justify them given the decline in readership of blogs in general.
It's time and money I could spent elsewhere. I've made this the last year for 'The Lost Exodite' domain and hosting. It was a fun distraction messing with code, but it is time to switch back to a free platform like 'Blogspot'.
I will be leaving lost exodite online until the current hosting renews in 2025, at which point it will lapse, along with the domain name. Any content worth saving, or re-posting I'll look to migrate onto Blogspot, and any new content I will publish here from now on.
Disillusioned?
Yeah, kind of. But not with the community, the hobby, or the joy I get sharing my work. I wrote a whole section digging into how I felt about 'stuff', social media, the erosion of longer form content for quick clicks. But you know what? It doesn't matter and I don't want to be the old negative guy. So I binned it.
The truth is I still enjoy sharing my hobby progress and thoughts. Even if I'm the only one who reads them. It's cathartic and life affirming. It also reminds me I'm not an AI. At least not as far as I know? No, I'm pretty sure I'm not. For one there's no way an AI would have chosen that purple for the Emperor's Children Kratos.
So what's next?
Well, less animations and image carousels I guess. A few ads here and there will be discreetly inserted by Google. I won't see them, but I assume they will be there somewhere. And for me, a far far simpler life, where I don't have to mess around with maintaining any of that anymore. I can just focus on the hobby.
Content will be the same, if not more. It will just be less whizzy and more functional. But at the end of the day who cares right? As long as the hobby content is still there.
In truth, I'm actually looking forward to simplifying my life and just sticking to the hobby stuff and less of the website maintenance stuff. I can also buy a few more legion boxes with the money I'm saving. Praise the Omnissiah!
On that subject
How could I not comment on the Dark Mechanicum reveals. I thought the two large 'machines' they showed last week were good, but they are really doubling down on the whole insectile and organic appearance of the Dark Mechanicum in the Heresy with the latest preview. Can't wait to get my hands on these and see what colour scheme I can come up with alongside the Machanicum battle group box.
The new name for the blog? I just liked it.Carl
