Dark Mechanicum break cover

Exciting surprise reveal from Warhammer Community, not only some of the Dark Mechanicum rules and campaign, but two more Mechanicum tanks. The Krios and Karacnos spotted hiding in plain sight. That was sneaky of them. The Karacnos Assault tank looks an absolute beast!

If one looks carefully past the Karacnos, there's another sneaky Krios behind it! Can't tell if it's a different variation, but wouldn't be surprised. The photo gives a good impression how large the Mechanicum tanks are, especially that Karacnos, which looks similar in bulk to that of a legion Spartan.

I think my assessment of the base of the Serperos heavy walkers being 60mm making it approximately Knight Porphyrion in scale turned out fairly accurate. Happy days. You can read all the details on Warhammer Community

The Mechanicum and Dark Mechanicum reveals so far have really got me excited, can't wait to get these on the workbench and into some games. I might be tempted to even paint one of the Network Anima in Heresy AoD scale (should they do one), because let's be honest, all the signs are there in the artwork it's probably already done in 28mm scale.

Distractions aside

I'm still focusing on loyalist Solar Auxilia, now I have a base palette I like for both the tanks and infantry.

On the workbench are two (or one large I guess) squadrons of Leman Russ and a single Baneblade. These make up the mandatory slots for an armoured company, so are game ready. Obviously I won't be stopping there.

The tasks I have left to do are add the oil weathering and varnishing, atmospherics, finishing details and the magnetic bases. Plan is to get them done this week if I get some time.

Air Support

Not really new, as I originally painted them for Aeronautica Imperialis. But the Marauder bombers (one of a pair) I want to kind of harmonise with the ground forces. It did, and even better has given me some ideas for additional tank classification markings. I'll experiment with those maybe this weekend.

I'm also conscious I have four Dreadnought delivery coffins part complete. I guess I should get those finished as well. Too many distractions.

I pushed the saturation a lot more on these knowing I will pull it back during the weathering. That being said, I do like the richer red, but it's probably leaning too far towards 40K than Heresy. I nearly always find painting red to be a 'journey' that evolves across each unit I do. Rarely ever looks the same across all the detachments in the army. Is that a bad thing? Undecided.

Heresy Thursday tomorrow, so wouldn't be surprised to see an 'official' reveal of the Mechanicum tanks seen above. That would be nice. Don't forget, the Mechanicum go on pre-order for Legions Imperialis this weekend.
